Have you ever met someone, a person, who actually glows? I have. That was my experience when i set my eyes on John Paul II in 2003, just a bit over a year before I became a priest, and about two years before he died.  He had this luminescent effect about him, like he has this unbearable lightness of being, so to speak. Many people would cry when they saw the pope, including some friends who are non-Catholic, and I never understood why exactly, but i came to experience how close it is to feeling overwhelmed by the presence of a holy person. So, when he put his hand on me, I was literally lifted an inch from the floor. I don’t presume that I was glowing, but I was definitely happy and filled with the blessing that was passed on through his holy hands. I remember that moment very fondly, and I am grateful that it was captured in this picture, together with my classmates, on my first visit to Rome. And I just realized that with John Paul II’s recent canonization, I might just have turned into a relic. Hahaha. Amazing!

This is my entry to Ailsa’s a Word-A-Week Challenge: Glow. Obviously I have taken a different route with this word challenge. After all, I am already so behind, so I might as well go as out of the mold as possible. Blessings to all of us.

  1. I bet you, you were glowing after the experience. Who would have thought that you were blessed by a saint in person. That was a very loving gesture by Pope John Paul II on you, very fatherly. You’re truly chosen and blessed.

  2. Priceless!
