Travel Theme Photo Challenge: Deep

Travel Theme Photo Challenge: Deep

For this week’s Where’s My Backpack Travel Theme Photo Challenge: DEEP, here’s one of my all-time favorite photos. I took it when I was on a moving bus in Tuscany, between Siena and Florence. To me, this is DEEP, the quintessential sample photo for depth of field. The mountain ranges just slowly disappear into the distance, but each one still adds so much to the story of the whole picture. This is like a soul, where one has to cross deeper and deeper through the layers of the spiritual life in order to appreciate better whatever is immediately apparent and visibly accessible in a human being. To get to really know someone, it is important not stay in the immediately perceivable, but instead, go deep into the invisible. That’s not easy. I can’t imagine what effort it must take to cross each mountain range, in the same way that I cannot imagine what effort it must take to enter into the deepest recesses of a person’s soul. Just like this picture shows the deepest mysteries of creation, so does spirituality venture into the unfathomable depth of the mystery of every human life.
